He joined the guard because Alphys saw his fighting skills and wanted his talent amongst them, and Papyrus therefore forced him to join. He doesn't wear armour because he "doesn't need it". He speaks in lowercase letters still. Sans is usually rather lazy and generally seems bored, but has a strange sense of malice about him. The prospect of murdering a human intrigues him, and he desires to find a way around Papyrus' rules on fairness.
