I pick them up every morning, practice for a few hours, and never think twice about where they came from- it's always the music, only the music. But what about the wood? We seem to forget that most of the things around us began their life as trees- and I mean that truly, because I'm sitting on a wood floor now, staring at two pianos with wooden casing, surrounded by sheet music perched on a wooden chest. And every single one of these things began their life growing, somehow, in a forest. In today's episode of Conversations With a Master Bow Maker we will cover just that: wood. Yung takes us through the first steps of bow making, choosing pernambuco wood, and the history of our relationship with this very fine material.
