https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vpvDWrKTsI Part one of the 10th episode focuses on making a towline winch for free-flight gliders up to 36" span, using household items, along with a geared rubber winder, and a spool of 10-20lb. test braided fishing line. The film includes initial test flights by a pair of Schweizers, 31" & 36" spans, on 1.5.23 in Wawayanda, NY, where it was 46º and damp, but very calm. The winch is based on a design by Peter Kaiteris. It's adaptable, so use whatever replacement parts you may have on hand, ie, a broom handle instead of a wooden stake, or a large paperclip instead of .032" K&S music wire. Or you can use a different winder, preferably 10:1 ratio and under. Here's the original design by Peter Kaiteris: http://hallmanstudio.com/Simple_Winch...
