Lack of fusion voids, balling, surface roughness, and residual stress in AM

Mitigation of these defects based on emerging digital tools can avoid expensive and time-consuming trial-and-error testing and provide solutions based on scientific principles. The approach can improve the quality consistency of 3D printed parts that now limit their greater industrial adaptation. This talk was presented at the University of Wisconsin Madison as a part of a symposium on Frontiers in Computational Materials Science organized by Drs. Jiamian Hu, Izabela Szlufarska, Dane Morgan, and Yongfeng Zhang.
